Description

The human IGHG1  (immunoglobulin heavy constant gamma 1 (G1m marker)) gene encodes the Ig gamma-1 (IgG1) chain constant (C) region. The C region contains 3 Ig-like domains including the CH1, hinge, CH2 and CH3 domains.  The hinge, CH2 and CH3 region is also commonly referred to as the Fc region.  Fc meditates the interactions with the complement components and Fc-gamma receptors (FCGRs) to induce innate immune responses such as antibody-dependent complement activation and phagocytosis, respectively. Diseases associated with IGHG1 include heavy chain deposition disease, and B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia (B-CLL).  In addition a chromosomal translocation t(11;14)(q13;q32) within the IGHG1 locus is found in multiple myeloma (MM). MM is a malignant tumor of plasma cells usually arising in the bone marrow and characterized by diffuse involvement of the skeletal system, hyperglobulinemia, Bence-Jones proteinuria and anemia. MM is is part of a spectrum of diseases ranging from monoclonal gammopathy of unknown significance (MGUS) to plasma cell leukemia (PCL).  The human Fc control protein is expressed as a recombinant protein that include the hinge , CH2 and CH3 domains of human IgG1 (which are identical to the Fc used in other Fc-fusion proteins).  The purified protein can be used as a negative control for other Fc-fusion proteins in a variety of biological assays.
