Description

BTN1A1 (Butyrophilin subfamily 1 member A1) is a single pass type I transmembrane protein belonging to the BTN/MOG family of the immunoglobulin (Ig) superfamily (IgSF). Butyrophilin (BTN) is the major protein associated with fat droplets in the milk.  The BTN genes are a group of major histocompatibility complex (MHC)-associated genes that encode type I transmembrane proteins with 2 extracellular immunoglobulin (Ig) domains and an intracellular B30.2/SPRY (PRYSPRY) domain. Three subfamilies of human BTN genes are located in the MHC class I region: the single-copy BTN1A1 gene and the BTN2 (e.g., BTN2A1) and BTN3 (e.g., BNT3A1) genes, which have undergone tandem duplication, resulting in 3 copies of each.  BTN1A1 contains 2 Ig-like V-type (IgV) domains in the extracelluar region (ECD). BTN1A1 may function in the secretion of milk-fat droplets and act as a specific membrane-associated receptor for the association of cytoplasmic droplets with the apical plasma membrane. BTN1A1 inhibits the proliferation of CD4 and CD8 T-cells activated by anti-CD3 antibodies, T-cell metabolism and IL2 and IFN-Gamma secretion

Primers: Gene insert coding sequence can be confirmed by following primers:

(a) forward (or 5'-end) primer: 5’-CAAATGGGCGGTAGGCGTG-3’;

(b) reverse (or 3'-end) primer: 5’-CCAGGTTTCCGGGCCCTCAC-3’

Note: The sequence may vary due to the naturally occurring variants or mutations, such as single nucleotide polymorphism, or the artifact during PCR amplification.  High fidelity PCR systems should always be used.
