Description

ASTN1 (Astrotactin-1) is a two-pass type I transmembrane protein that belongs to the astrotactin family.  ASTN1 contains 2 extracellular domains (ECD), including a 132 aa (amino acid) long small ECD1 and a 900 aa long large ECD2.  The ECD2 is composed of three EGF-like motifs and one Fibronectin type-III motif.  ASTN1 is known to interact with ASTN2 in a calcium-independent manner.  ASTN1 functions as a neuronal adhesion molecule and is required for glial-guided migration of young postmitotic neuroblasts in cortical regions of developing brain, including cerebrum, hippocampus, cerebellum, and olfactory bulb. ASTN1 is also required for normal rate of migration of granule cells during brain development and for normal cerebellum development.

Gene Symbol: ASTN1; Astrotactin-1; ASTN
