LTF or LF (Lactotransferrin) is a secreted glycoprotein that belongs to the transferrin family. The LTF gene resides in the same region of chromosome 3 as other members of the transferrin family. LTF shares sequence similarity and iron-binding properties with other family members. It contains two transferrin-like motifs and each binds a single atom of iron in association with the binding of an anion, usually bicarbonate. LTF is found in the secondary granules of neutrophils. LTF represents the major iron-binding protein found in exocrine fluids, such as breast milk and mucosal secretions. LTF demonstrates a broad spectrum of functions, including regulation of iron homeostasis, host defense against a broad range of pathogens, anti-inflammatory activity, regulation of cellular growth and differentiation, and protection against cancer development and metastasis. LTF and its peptides have antimicrobial, antiviral, antifungal and antiparasitic activities. Its antiviral activities include those against both DNA and RNA viruses, such as SARS-CoV-2 and HIV.
Gene Symbol: LTF; LF; lactotransferrin; HLF2; GIG12; HEL110
NCBI Gene ID: 4057
Uniprot Entry: P02788
Construct Details: Full length human LTF gene is subcloned into the Lentiviral expression vector pLTC with an upstream CMV promoter and with or without a selection marker, which can be used for both transient and stable expression in mammalian cells. It can be co-transfected with the LentiPAK DNA mix (SKU# LP-001) into HEK293 cells to produce high titer lentiviral particles. Multiple choices of a stable antibiotic selection marker are available.
Vector Type: pLTC or pLTC-IRES-Marker (lentiviral expression vector containing a heterologous CMV promoter +/- a selection marker, see the vector map above)
Formulation: Supplied with 10 μg of endotoxin-free plasmid DNA at 200 ng/μl in sterile TE buffer (pH8.0)

Primers: Gene insert coding sequence can be confirmed by following primers:
(a) forward (or 5'-end) primer: 5’-CAAATGGGCGGTAGGCGTG-3’;
(b) reverse (or 3'-end) primer: 5’-CCAGGTTTCCGGGCCCTCAC-3’
Note: The sequence may vary due to the naturally occurring variants or mutations, such as single nucleotide polymorphism, or the artifact during PCR amplification. High fidelity PCR systems should always be used.
